Performance Assessment of a Prototype Design

A prediction of performance was required for a prototype domestic water chiller prior to the design being commissioned for manufacture. CFD techniques were used to translate the manufacturing CAD into a virtual working model. Accurate thermal and fluid analysis employed by the CFD code allowed a complete system evaluation to be made. The simulation solution indicated a positive result, while also highlighting areas for perfecting the configuration. The design was sent for manufacture and subsequent testing, which confirmed a favourable outcome. Use of CFD methods minimised the risk in a new product development.
