Initial Assessment & Design Development of a Novel Ocean Stream Turbine

Ocean currents represent a potentially significant, but largely untapped, source of energy and ocean current technology is at an early stage of development. Our client required an initial engineering assessment of a newly patented technology in order to assess whether to commit funds to further engineering development. Subsequent work aimed to develop the device configuration and design to improve performance. A mixture of CFD and analytical tools were used in the initial assessment and subsequent design development. The development work lead to a revised design with a 200% increase in performance compared to the original concept.
