Analysis of the Performance of a Bathroom Extractor Fan

A concept design for a bathroom extractor fan demanded high static pressure while still being compact and quiet for domestic use. The proposed design consisted of a centrifugal blower type fan with scroll volute and an adjustable outlet elbow. CFD techniques were applied to perform detailed analysis of the assembly in order to identify the main reasons for excessive noise and lack of supply pressure. Within a two week period analysis using CFX 5.0 was conducted that lead to design recommendations for improved product performance.
