Analysis of Race Car Aerodynamics using CFD
Computational Fluid Dynamics was used to investigate detailed aspects of aerodynamics over an Indy500 racing car. Rapid design development was required to meet the deadlines for the new season.
IFS carried out detailed analysis on the engine intake and air box airflow. Improvements in the air box pressure were achieved, while the overall drag of the car was reduced. CFD has become a standard design feature in the motor sport industry, due to its capacity for detailed design featuring and low turn-around times.
