Advanced Analysis and Development of a Racing Oar
The design of rowing oars has evolved significantly over the last three decades, however further improvements are becoming increasingly difficult to achieve. IFS assisted a manufacturer of high performance oars to develop a design tool to aid their product design and development process. A mixture of analytical modelling and detailed CFD analysis was used. The CFD analysis considered the blade motion and performance at three locations in the full rowing stroke. These results were then combined with the analytical tool to form a powerful design assessment methodology.
